Understanding cultural communication patterns is a crucial component of being a good technical communicator. Without a clear understanding, one can unknowingly introduce conflict or appear disrespectful.

The original text of this exercise featured an email written by an American author to an international potential client. I analyzed the email and noted a number of areas where the original lacked cultural consideration and professionalism. I then revised the email to be more culturally appropriate by using a professional tone, eliminating idiomatic phrases, and including formal letter structures, such as a polite greeting, formal introduction, and a closing.
